03.02.11 The 9th Part of Daudi's Story

Reaching the ‘End of the Line’

All hell broke loose when the concerned village elders blew the whistle, causing the Anti-Corruption Bureau to track Daudi like a bloodhound.  In no time, his dirty secrets had frothed to the surface.  Investigations revealed that he had gone as far as colluding with corrupt officials to illegally grant a foreign investor the rights to excavate and export minerals.  As if that wasn’t enough, the Engineer was also linked to corrupt personnel who had shamelessly siphoned taxpayers’ money to accumulate wealth.  The same set of criminals were found to be bribing tax regulatory officers with the intention of evading taxes. 

In the twinkle of an eye, law enforcers were instructed to immediately arrest Daudi.  A sizeable amount of his assets were seized and some bank accounts frozen.  His eldest sister Mirembe had to run to the Engineer’s rescue by bailing him out of jail. 

But as fate would have it, it was only a week later that Daudi got involved in an accident so serious that it left him confined to a wheelchair.  Soon thereafter, the overtly stressed Engineer was diagnosed with hypertension and severe clinical depression.  To add insult to injury, Daudi’s story was so on-demand that it went viral on social media; marking the end of his political and professional career.

Currently, the Engineer’s ill-gotten wealth is more of a story than reality as the remaining assets are being sold off one by one, in order for him to handle life.  Daudi and his cohorts are set to appear in court for final judgement.  Should they be found guilty, they could spend some years behind bars.
