03.02.07 The 5th Part of Daudi's Story
Tafiti Technologies Agency
After a straight two years lurking around on the street, a desperate Daudi landed a job at Tafiti Technologies Agency as Technical Manager. As luck may have it, the man had managed to sneak into the Agency with his dirty résumé unnoticed.
However, things came to light after Keziya, a statistician, was awarded a contract to conduct a survey for the Agency. On meeting Daudi, Keziya was quick to put her Christian beliefs on the table. The newly employed Technical Manager assured the statistician that he, also, was a devout Christian. “You don’t know how hard I fasted and prayed to get this miracle job… sowing seeds… attending overnights, name it...; now here I am, in charge of the Technical Department…” Daudi had related, coining a list of prominent prophets whose fervent prayers had loosened the job from the heavens into the Engineer’s grip.
But Daudi’s true colors surfaced the day he claimed that the ‘elders’ were demanding an inflation in Keziya’s invoice to accommodate a cut of thirty-percent, failure of which the statistician would have to ‘say bye’ to future business from the Agency. “Plus, you will have to suffer the long bureaucracy of our payment processes…, as our finance guys are not ready to work for free,” Daudi had added. But Keziya was unmoved, reminding ‘Brother Daudi’ not to compromise his Christian stand. However, when the Engineer insisted that the ‘elders’ were on his back, Keziya decided to opt out of the assignment. The unapologetic Daudi rushed to invite a friend, Basaalirwa, an old schoolmate, who was more than ready to oblige Daudi and his corrupt counterparts by accommodating their kickback in the invoice for the consultancy. Unfortunately, Basaalirwa’s work was so shoddy that hot questions were asked by Tafiti’s Top Management. Before long, it was discovered that Daudi had brought the man on board without conducting any background checks and that the invoice had been over-inflated; a thing which led to the termination of the Engineer’s employment.
