03.04.06 The 4th Consequence of Engaging in Corruption

Conflicting with your True Identity 

While Daudi’s work workmates knew him as a dubious person, do not be surprised to hear that church members were listing him among the ‘holiest and most ethical brothers in the city’.  Little did they know that the man was seeped in corruption to the bone; a ‘wolf in sheep’s skin’. Two exactly opposite identities in the one person! 

However, every Christian, including Daudi, is branded with God’s identity.  When we invite Jesus into our lives, the entire God-head takes our lives over completely.  God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit make us their abode.  God’s identity becomes our bona-fide identity.  And, of course God does not give or take bribes, so in our true identity, entertaining bribes cannot be an option.  Deuteronomy 10:17 very explicitly states so (NKJV): For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe.  The same Bible also spells out our identity, by saying that we are actually created in God’s image and likeness (Genesis 1:27, AMPC).  Other translations expound on that scripture by saying that we were created godlike, reflecting God’s character; and representing Him in the world, which of course includes your workplace, amongst others!  That was what John meant when he said that as Jesus is so are we in this world (1 John 4:17). 

Now, if we are like Jesus, created in the image and likeness of a God who does not entertain bribes; isn’t engaging in corruptive activities paramount to operating in conflict with our true identity?  Isn’t that outright disobedience?  And, just how safe is that?
