03.06.03 The 1st Organisational Consequence of Corruption

1. Overthrowing of Justice

There is no single country that has not established some form of a judicial or law enforcement system.  However, the infiltration of some of those systems by corrupt people has rendered those structures ineffective thereby cheating citizens of the justice that they so rightly deserve.  Proverbs 29:4 is spot-on when it says (NKJV): The king establishes the land by justice, But he who receives bribes overthrows it.  No wonder Proverbs 28:5 says (NLV): Sinful men do not understand what is right and fair...  When the law enforcement system is not doing its work, citizens end up despising the law, which exacerbates crime since all a notorious criminal would have to do is to bribe law enforcement officers then go scot-free.  Such a stance has negative political, and socio-economic consequences given that it can easily ruin a whole country; as the verse that we read earlier (Proverbs 29:4) says.  At an institutional level, corruption can lead to unfairness in the way grievances are handled, which, in effect, can demotivate employees, causing them to lose confidence in management; with devastating effects on work and bottom-line organisational performance.  Corruption is one of the commonest ways that the wicked make people mourn; as the ruthless, merciless, inhuman and heartless criminals grab even the little that the poor have.  No wonder Proverbs 29:2 says (NLT): When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice.  But when the wicked are in power, they groan.
