03.03.04 The 2nd Snare that Causes Some Seemingly God-Fearing People to Succumb to Corruption

2. Being involved in Ministry without being Discipled first

The involvement of people in church ministry before being discipled could be one of the reasons why some ‘brothers and sisters’ find themselves entangled in corruption; just like what happened to Daudi.  You may remember how the young Engineer was hand-picked as an interpreter for Pastor Boni, simply because the Man of God was impressed with the Engineer’s English accent, profile and smart clothes.  Moreover, Daudi had been elected Church Treasurer at one point, chosen of course on the premise that since he was loaded with currency, he would willingly donate sums of money to finance some ‘limping’ church projects.

But 1 Timothy 5:22 explicitly warns against hurriedly putting people in ministry.  It says (AMP): Do not hurry to lay hands on anyone [ordaining and approving someone for ministry or an office in the church].

How about you?  Could you be ministering at Church just to please your Pastor, caring less about what God thinks about you?  Have you accorded time to learn who God is as you minister to His people?  Are you ministering to fulfil a duty or in obedience to God’s way of doing things?
