03.04.10 The 8th Consequence of Engaging in Corruption

Defiling Your Family Line, Root or Ancestry

It is no secret that most people strive to earn a living just so that they can support their families.  Many refer to ‘the well-being of children, spouses, parents or other close family members’ as the motivation behind employment.  But rather than work for honest gain, some officials have smeared their families with mud as communities have branded those entire families ‘corrupt’ simply because ‘one cook spoilt the broth’!  Undoubtedly, corrupt officials have defiled their families, disgracing the people that propelled the professionals to work in the first place.

God has something to say about this situation.  Actually, He warns that the root of those engaged in corruption will decay.  One’s root may mean that person’s ancestry.  And, with no doubt, a rotten family name will taint one’s children, grandchildren and beyond.  See what Isaiah 5:22-24 (CEV) says: 23You accept bribesto let the guilty go free, and you cheat the innocent out of a fair trial.  24You will go up in flames like straw and hay!  You have rejected the teaching of the Holy Lord God All-Powerful of Israel. Now your roots will rot

Do you know that Daudi’s faction was labelled ‘corrupt’, notwithstanding that some members of his community could have been innocent?  Did you know that such a label cannot easily be deleted from people’s memories and that it could last for generations?  For instance, thousands of years down the track, scriptures still report the bribes that Samuel’s children extracted from desperate members of his community (1 Samuel 8:3).  So, if the world rejects a one’s children or lineage, which planet will the person evacuate them to?
