Publicising an Offender’s Wrong-doings
Unforgiveness can be signified if you find yourself getting a ‘kick’ out of publicizing your offender’s dirty linen. A few years after Chipo’s recruitment, the post of ‘Chief Accountant’ fell vacant. Being more qualified than her colleague, Kalema, Chipo had been encouraged to apply for the position. But much to the surprise of many, Kalema was awarded the post. However, there is truth in the saying that ‘whatever is done in darkness comes out in the light’. For no sooner had Kalema been promoted than Chipo discovered that he had been ‘feeding’ the Managing Director with false reports that Chipo was fraudulent; a thing which had undermined her chances of becoming the Chief Accountant. “From that day, I swore to never rest until everyone in the organization had been alerted about Kalema’s scheming tactics”, she reveals. So, when Kalema was caught red-handed misappropriating funds, Chipo embarked on a mission to publicize the man’s dirty mannerisms to every ‘living being’ in the office. In no time, the grapevine had reached top management, shortly after which Kalema was sacked. “I celebrated Kalema’s fate with vigour, since at long last, I had got my revenge”, she admits. “What caused a turnaround was the day I realised that his dismissal had not removed the bitterness that I had felt towards the man. Rather, the joy that I had derived from making sure that he suffers was very temporary”, she concludes.
You also need to realise that if you are enjoying spreading bad news about your offender, it is definite that you have not forgiven that person. The symptoms are easily recognisable: for instance, vying for authority to punish the offender; hungering for revenge and retaliation; praying that people experience the same pain they caused you. The problem though, is that such feelings breed stress which could culminate into a sizeable number of complications for you.
